It’s probably a bit of an understatement to say that studs have made it big this autumn/winter season. Adorned on every celebrity’s outfit and probably their dogs too, you’d be hard pressed to find a single piece of clothing on the high street at the moment without a few spiky little embellishments. Celebs such as Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Kristen Stewart and Rihanna have all been seen pulling off studded red carpet numbers, Jessie J even gave her lips the spike treatment during her music video ‘Do it Like a Dude’ (…No, I’m not sure either, see below). Don’t panic though. You don’t have to go out looking like a hedgehog this winter or even a dangerous lip assassin (unless you want to, of course), the high street has plenty of studded offerings to suit everyone.

Maybe a thin studded belt to cinch in your waist or some studded jewellery to emphasise the cut of some of your dresses? If you’re a little braver and fancy splashing a bit more cash on the trend, there are some spike-tastic shoes out there that should probably come with some kind of dangerous weapon license. There’s even some embellished dresses that would make you stand out from the crowd at the work Christmas party (I’m not entirely sure if it’d be possible to sit down, but then again, who needs to sit when there’s dancing to do!). For the stud shy, there’s even a range of hair accessories that you could try if you want to give a nod to the trend without going the whole hog. All in all, it goes without saying that studs really are everywhere, whatever your budget or style!
Don’t go overboard!
A word of warning to all you studaholics: spikes look great, don’t get me wrong! They toughen up and give an edgy feel to your outfit but head to toe studs is a big no-no. Being a human porcupine isn’t the look you’re trying to achieve! Like any trend, it’s best to have maybe one statement piece. Like a studded top OR a couple of studded accessories. Never, ever both.
