PRESS RELEASE:  September 2013

Dunking Brits love a chocolate biscuit

Nearly a quarter of Brits would opt for a chocolate digestive ahead of any others in the biscuit tin, according to a new poll.

The survey by asked 480 people to pick out their favourite biscuit from a list of ten with the chocolate digestive coming out as the best loved biccie with 23% of respondents.

They claimed the combination of thick chocolate and biscuit was irresistible, especially with a hot cuppa to dunk it in.

Hot on its heels was its less glamorous cousin, the humble digestive which gained a fifth, 20%, of the vote.

Taking third place was young pretender, the chocolate chip cookie with 15% of respondents saying this was their favourite.

Bourbon and custard creams took fourth and fifth place respectively with 12% and 11% of those questioned loving them.

Malted milk were voted in at sixth place by seven per cent, with old time favourite the ginger nut take seventh place with a mere five per cent of the vote.

Christmas biscuit favourite shortbread came in at eighth position with four per cent with fig rolls, three per cent and rich tea, one per cent, propping up the bottom of the poll.

One respondent said: “Nothing beats a chocolate digestive dunked in a cup of tea or coffee. The melted chocolate is just delicious and then the tasty biscuit – I could easily eat a whole packet in one sitting.”

Another said: “I don’t understand how anyone could enjoy a rich tea. They’re tasteless and as soon as you dunk them, fall to pieces. I hate having biscuit crumbs in the bottom of my tea. That said, if it was the only biscuit available, I’d probably still eat it.”

A third added: “I love chocolate chip cookies. It doesn’t matter whether they’re straight out of the packet, from the bakery or I bake them myself. They are definitely my top choice. My two children have inherited my love of them too – home from school and it’s a glass of milk with chocolate cookies to dunk.”

A spokesman for said: “It’s fair to say us Brits love our biccies, and why not! We all need a tasty treat every now and again and a cup of tea really wouldn’t be the same without a biscuit to dunk in it.

“There’s so much choice now when it comes to choosing the best biscuits but it’s good to see the old favourites are standing strong at the top of our poll.”
