Save money and eat better with our round-up of cheap air fryer recipes you can create at home.

Unless you have been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard all about the Air Fryer hype. If not, we’re here to fill you in. Millions of people have ditched their cooker for this nifty kitchen gadget that has taken the internet by storm!

Air Fryer Fakeaways

The Air Fryer makes it easy to knock up hundreds of tasty recipes and ‘fakeaways’ in record time with minimal ingredients from your very own kitchen. And the best part is, that air fryers require no cooking oils and can be a much cheaper alternative to expensive takeouts.

So, what’s all the fuss about? We’ve created a full round-up of cheap recipes you can create using your air fryer including popular ‘fakeaway’ dishes that won’t leave you feeling guilty – or out of pocket!

In this Guide

Budget Fakeaway Recipes

We all love a cheeky takeaway, but there’s no denying that these guilty pleasures can cost us. If you’re fed up with overspending on takeaways, why not have a go at making a budget fakeaway using your air fryer?

Not only are these meals a much cheaper alternative, but they’re also a lot healthier and quick to make!

KFC

Fancy some finger-lickin’ chicken? All you need are three ingredients and the herbs and spices in your cupboard! Soak your chicken pieces in buttermilk, cover them in seasoned flour and place them in the air fryer. Do this with thighs, wings or breasts and create a real bargain bucket at home!

KFC

If you want the fries to match, chop up some potatoes into thin slices, season them and throw them in alongside your chicken to make some air fryer chips! And, as no oil is required to air fry your food, this budget alternative will prove much healthier than an actual KFC.

McDonald’s

Make a copycat McChicken Sandwich by blitzing pieces of chicken breast in a food processor. Then, add seasoning and an OXO cube from your cupboard. Do the same with a bit of bread you have lying around to make breadcrumbs.

Split your chicken mince into little balls and coat them in the breadcrumbs. Then, all you have to do is put them in your air fryer for 8 minutes at 175 degrees and you’ll have tasty crispy chicken! Add salad and mayo to a bun and place your burger inside for a cheaper alternative to a McChicken Sandwich.

Want to add some nuggets to your order? Do the same thing but roll your chicken into smaller shapes before cooking. Pair these with some air-fried potato slices and you’ll have a complete fakeaway meal!

Chinese

If you love salt and pepper chicken but don’t love the cost, why not try making your own? Iceland has a great selection of shredded chicken strips, wings and chunks for just £3. Chuck these into the air fryer with some seasoning and peppers and enjoy a cheaper alternative to your salt and pepper chicken.

Salt and pepper chicken

If you want to be a bit healthier, you can also have a go at battering the chicken yourself. Roll your chicken slices in cornflower, salt, pepper and five-spice and cook in the air fryer. Once it’s almost ready, add in some peppers, spring onions and chillies and enjoy your favourite Chinese dish for a quarter of the price!

Burgers

As well as chicken burgers, you can also use your air fryer to cook beef patties. Throw your beef burgers in the air fryer for 8 minutes, then add some cheese and let it melt. All you need then is a bun, some sauce, and a handful of air-fried chips.

The best thing about cooking burgers this way is that it doesn’t require any oil- allowing you to save on your cooking supplies while making healthier choices.

Fish & Chips

Enjoy one of your takeaway favourites on a budget- as long as you have flour, eggs and bread in your cupboard, you have all the ingredients to batter your fish! Coat your cod in all three ingredients and a hint of seasoning, spray it with a bit of fry light and place it in your air fryer.

Add some hand-chopped potatoes and let these crisp up alongside your cod. Within a matter of minutes, you’ll have a healthier and cheaper version of fish and chips.

Pizza

Tired of spending a fortune on pizza deliveries? Save money and cut down on your calories with the viral TikTok air fryer pizza recipe. Simply place a tortilla on the bottom rack of your appliance, sprinkle on a layer of cheese and another tortilla.

Pizza

Then, add your sauce, cheese and toppings and cook for 5 minutes at 200 degrees. The result is a tasty, affordable and low-carb homemade pizza!

Quick & Easy Air Fryer Dishes

The great thing about air fryers is their versatility, whether you’re cooking a fakeaway or a full English, your air fryer can do it all. If you’re looking for some inspiration, here are a few quick and easy staple dishes that you should add to your air fryer recipe book.

Sunday Dinner

Do you love a weekly Sunday roast? Swap out your oven for an air fryer and save yourself some time and money. Instead of leaving your oven on for hours, shove your meat, veg and roasties in the air fryer and let it do all the work.

This is also ideal for those of you trying to be healthier. With minimal oil required, you can still enjoy your crispy roast potatoes in the air fryer without counting the calories.

Full English

A full English usually requires the use of your hob, grill and toaster, not to mention all the water it takes to wash the pots afterwards. Instead of using multiple appliances to cook your breakfast in the morning, switch to your air fryer and save energy and money.

Full English Breakfast

An air fryer can cook toast, eggs, hash browns, bacon and sausages all in one go! Simply throw all your ingredients inside and make things easier for yourself in the morning.

Burritos

Hungry for a quick and tasty meal? Stuff a tortilla wrap with a bunch of your favourite fillings, fold it up and toast it in the air fryer. Instead of using oil and wasting time heating your burrito in a pan or the oven, your air fryer will cook it in just 8-10 minutes.

Its smaller size will also make sure your burrito stays compact, so there will be no filling going to waste or any unnecessary mess.

Steak

Steak

Sick of the mess your steak makes in the pan? Swap to an air fryer and enjoy a medium-rare sirloin in just 10 minutes. Cooking your meat in the air fryer also adds extra flavour and makes washing up a whole lot easier.

Things you didn’t know you could cook in the Air Fryer

Things you didn’t know you could cook in the Air Fryer

If you’re new to the air fryer game, you may be under the impression that they can only be used to cook things that are usually fried. However, this is not the case. Because of the airflow and absence of oil, air fryers can also cook things you’d usually grill or bake.

Pasta

Ever thought of making crisps from pasta? It may seem strange, but many people have started using their air fryers to create ‘pasta chips’. This involves placing your boiled pasta in the air fryer until it crisps up. You can then add seasoning and sauce and you have your very own chipsticks and dip!

If you’re looking to use your air fryer for more conventional purposes, you can also use it to finish off your pasta bake or macaroni cheese. Within a couple of minutes, this handy device will melt any cheese topping, saving you time while keeping your kitchen more energy efficient.

Desserts

Desserts

Did you know that air fryers can be used to make all kinds of tasty desserts? Instead of spending time heating your oven, bake your cupcakes, brownies and cookies in the air fryer and enjoy the same result in less time! You can also use your air fryer to cook popcorn, french toast churros and doughnuts.

Frozen Food

If you’re looking for a quicker way to cook frozen food, an air fryer is perfect. Heat everything from vegetables to onion rings and fries without turning your oven on.

Hard-Boiled Eggs

It may come as a surprise, but your air fryer is great for boiling eggs! Of course, they won’t actually be boiled, but they will taste the same as they would if boiled using the hob. Cook them for 15 minutes at 130 degrees and enjoy dippy eggs without turning the gas on.

Leftovers

If you have food left over from the night before, instead of wasting it, throw it into the air fryer and watch it bubble and crisp all over again. Air fryers are great for reheating food as they make sure it retains its flavour. They also bring the crispiness back to your food instead of making it soggy.

Leftovers

So, for crispy, flavoursome food that tastes just as good as it did the night before, ditch the microwave and let the air fryer get to work!
