Mrs Hinch’s Top 15 Cleaning Tips & Tricks

  1. How to clean your plugs

Pour soda crystals down your plug followed by white vinegar spray (Stardrops) and neat disinfectant (Zoflora). You can then pour boiling water down the plug to wash it all away.

  2. How to get sinks sparkling

Use disinfectant spray and a touch of water, then wipe down the excess before using stainless steel cleaner (CIF). You can then use a cloth to finish it off.

  3. Removing food mess from wooden floors

For severe messes use degreaser over the affected area and then an electric brush cleaner to remove it before using a cloth. For lesser messes Mrs Hinch swears by Cif, Astonish or Flash floor cleaner as well as Flash or Eveready XL floor wipes.

  4. Keeping your hob stain free

Use a cloth and a cleaning paste (The Pink Stuff). After a few minutes rinse with another wet cloth and repeat. Mrs Hinch also regularly uses Astonish hob and cooktop cleaner.

  5. Cleaning your washing machine

Slide out the drawer and use a bathroom spray (Flash bathroom with Febreze) before spraying limescale remover into the gap where the drawer was. Pull back the rim and use bathroom spray before wiping down and using an electric cleaning brush to remove any dirt.

  6. Making sure mirrors are streak free

Use Stardrops white vinegar spray and a fluffy microfibre cloth to wipe until all smears are gone. Mrs Hinch’s favourite sponge to use is the Minky Sponge (aka Minkeh.)

  7. Getting rid of mattress stains

Take a sieve and sprinkle bicarbonate of soda over the top of the mattress. Leave it for at least an hour (remember the longer you leave it, the more dirt, moisture and odours it draws out). When you’re ready, vacuum up the bicarb and replace the sheets.

  8. How to keep your bin clean

Use Stardrops pine disinfectant spray before pouring a capful of disinfectant into the bottom of your bin. Then hose it down before using a dishmatic cloth full of washing up liquid to wipe down the inside and outside. Use the hose again and then leave the bin open and out to dry.

  9. How to make your fridge sparkle

Empty the fridge, take the shelves out and fill the bottom shelf with washing up liquid, disinfectant and hot water. Use this to wipe down the inside and outside of the fridge, before using cleaning paste (The Pink Stuff) to remove marks. Leave the shelves and bottom tray to dry. Mrs Hinch makes this laborious job easier by using fridge shelf liners. You can simply remove these handy little additions instead of the shelves, making cleaning the fridge a much easier task. Give them a wash in the sink, along with any fridge baskets you may have, with some warm water and a squirt of Fairy Liquid, leave them to dry and put them back in when you’re done.

  10. Cleaning leather sofas

Use bargain leather wipes then some diluted Zoflora spray to remove marks and to make your couch smell good.

  11. How to keep the microwave squeaky clean

Remove food stains and strange smells from your microwave by putting bicarbonate of soda into a small dish and leaving it in the microwave for the day. Mrs Hinch says it will absorb the odours, leaving you with a fresh-smelling, squeaky clean microwave. Or, you can use a Steam Microwave Cleaner to save time and to avoid the laborious task of scrubbing.

  12. Getting rid of limescale

Not only is that pesky limescale an extreme eyesore, but if left, it can tarnish your plug holes, taps & shower heads! Well, tackling the limescale doesn’t have to be a elbow-grease job anymore. Thanks to Mrs Hinch, she’s shared that by using Viakal Limescale Remover, your limescale will dissolve in just 5 minutes and will prevent limescale build-up altogether!

  13. Putting on a big wash

Washing our bedding and linen is one of those inevitable chores we sadly cannot avoid. However, Mrs Hinch shares her little cheat to keep her linen’s fresh between washes and helps keep them clean for longer! Each morning, she pritzes her bed with Febreze Fabric Refresher making her linen & cushions smell like they’ve just been washed. Give them a spray for yourself.

  14. Cleaning the bathroom towel rail

You may never have given it a thought to clean your bathroom towel rails however you will be surprised by the amount of dirt they collect, especially when damp towels are often hanging on them. Vanish that unnecessary rust and fingerprints the Mrs Hinch way using her favourite products. Stated in her own words, @mrshinchhome post: “I’ve just cleaned my towel rail using white vinegar and a damp microfibre cloth! It’s come up like new 😍 happy days!”

  15. Scrubbing your pots and pans

We’re all too familiar with those nasty burnt brown coloured stains on the bottom of our pans and it can seem like no matter how well we clean them in the sink – the bottoms never look clean! Well, Mrs Hinch get her pots and pans gleaming like new with very minimal effort. The clean queen swears by her go-to products Fairy Power Spray & The Pink Stuff along with hot water and a sponge. Give it a go and transform your pans in less than 5 minutes!
