Under-priced goods - Is living in the UK good value for money?

John Stirzaker·Oct 4, 2021

Here at NetVoucherCodes.co.uk, we were curious to see if living in the UK if good value for money.

As chat always seems to surround how expensive things are, we wanted to delve deeper into what bargains Brits can pick up.

Our research experts looked at the price of essential goods in the US and Asia and compared what they would cost here.

Us Brits get good value for money on some foods, cars and over the counter medications without even realising it.

Overall things in the UK are well priced in comparison to the rest of the world.

However, it is really easy to focus on what is overpriced, or what we think we are paying over the odds for.

When you look at the prices of things, such as groceries, fresh fruit and veg we get a lot better value for money, especially when comparing prices in places like the US and Asia.

The average price of a loaf of bread among most of the UK’s leading supermarkets comes to around 80p.

However, in the US the price is an extortionate £3 on average. The price in Asia is slightly lower, costing around £2.

Groceries and fresh foods are generally cheaper in the UK with all of the food items from the data being priced higher in the US and Asia.

One of the most expensive food items is chicken breast.

Consumers in the US will be paying around £8, whereas the same amount of meat can be sourced for £5 in Asia and £3 in the UK.

The cheapest item on the list is water – shoppers in the UK can pick up a bottle for around 37p. This almost doubles in Asia.

Americans will be paying more to quench their thirst as the average price of a bottle of water is £1.52.

The housing market is a slightly different story, but still shows a massive gap in prices.
The US has better value for money for house inhabitants. The average price of a home is around £216,000.

The UK falls to second place with a house of the same size costing £265,000 on average. The Asian housing market is the most expensive, with a similar build costing a whopping £686,000.

So… it turns out the UK isn’t so bad after all!
