Forest Holidays FAQs
Can I book Forest Holidays with just a deposit?
+Yes. You can book your cabin with a low deposit from £25 and spread the cost with easy monthly payments. This is great if you want to secure a deal early without paying the full amount upfront.
Are Forest Holidays cabins pet-friendly?
+Yes - many cabins are dog-friendly, so your furry friend can join you! There’s a small extra charge for bringing pets, but it’s still cheaper (and often less stressful) than paying for kennels while you’re away.
What is the Flexible Amendment option?
+This is an add-on that gives you unlimited date or location changes up to 6 weeks before arrival, and one change up to 8 days before arrival without paying extra amendment fees. It’s great if your plans might change, as it can protect your payment and reduce cancellation costs.
What happens if I need to cancel my booking?
+This will depend on how close you are to your holiday. If more than 6 weeks before arrival, you’ll lose your deposit only. Between 6 and 2 weeks, you’ll usually have to pay the full holiday cost unless you’ve added a Flexible Amendment. If it’s less than 2 weeks away, no refund is available unless protected by Flexible Amendment. There’s also a 24-hour cooling-off period after booking where you can cancel for a full refund.
Why we love Forest Holidays
I love booking with Forest Holidays because I know I’ll find a luxury staycation without having to spend a fortune. We stayed at Blackwood Forest in Hampshire during the May half-term and managed to grab a bargain. There was a last minute break deal on a dog-friendly cabin with a hot tub, so even the family dog came along for the adventure!
We booked with just a £25 deposit and spread the cost over a few months, which made it much easier to manage. I also saved on activities by planning in advance - booking a couple of outdoor experiences like cycling and den building, but also making the most of free things like forest walks and picnics.
For food, we used their pre-bookable BBQ pack for one night (cheaper than eating out) and brought our own food for the rest, which saved us on dining costs. In total, our family holiday ended up costing far less than a similar summer break at a hotel, and the kids had way more space to run around!
I’ve also spotted great deals for other times of year, like Halloween in the Forest of Dean, Sherwood Forest in autumn as well as pre-Christmas breaks in Beddgelert where you can wrap up warm, use the hot tub and enjoy the festive atmosphere without the peak-season prices.
The trick is to keep an eye on seasonal offers, whether it’s August holidays, weekend breaks, or midweek stays. Combine that with a Forest Holidays discount code from our page and you could save enough for extra treats during your trip.
How to save money at Forest Holidays without a discount code
Check the Offers Tab
Forest Holidays regularly updates their Offers tab with promotions, making it the first place I check when planning a trip - it’s how I saved over £150 on a dog-friendly cabin with a hot tub.
- Simply head to the Offers tab on the Forest Holidays website before booking - it’s updated throughout the year.
- Look for last minute breaks to save on unused cabins.
- Grab low deposit getaways from £25 to secure your trip without paying upfront.
- Keep an eye out for pay monthly deals to spread the cost.
Book Off-Peak
Travelling outside of peak times can drastically cut the cost of your stay. Midweek breaks in spring or autumn often cost far less than weekend breaks in August.
- Compare dates online! Moving your trip by just a few days can make a big difference so it’s always worth a try.
- Pre-Christmas breaks in November are perfect for cosy stays at a fraction of the cost.
- If you’re tied to school holidays, October half-term can be cheaper than the summer peak.
Choose a Cheaper Location
Keep in mind that prices vary depending on the forest you choose.
- Thorpe Forest and Cropton had starting prices £80 lower than Glentress Forest for the same dates when I compared in May.
- Use the flexible search option on the Forest Holidays website to view prices across multiple locations.
- Be open to travelling a little further if it means a better deal.
Bring your own Extras
Pre-booked food and drinks are convenient but can be pricey. Bringing your own supplies can cut costs significantly, especially for longer stays or group holidays.
- We packed our own BBQ meats, snacks and drinks for our holiday in May, it cost under £30 for the week, compared to over £70 for the pre-ordered pack.
- Plan meals ahead and shop before you arrive. Many forest locations are a drive from the nearest shop.
- Pack marshmallows, hot chocolate and treats for evenings in the cabin!
Sign up for the Newsletter
By joining the Forest Holidays mailing list, you’ll be first to hear about Forest news, early-bird sales, and exclusive deals.
- Some discounts and Forest Holidays discount codes are sent to newsletter subscribers before going public.
- You’ll be alerted to what’s new - like the opening of Glentress Forest, so you can grab introductory offers.
When is the best time to book Forest Holidays for the Biggest Savings?
If you’re planning a trip to one of Forest Holidays’ 13 stunning locations in the UK - knowing when to book can make a huge difference to the price you pay! Over the years, I’ve managed to bag some incredible deals just by timing my bookings right and keeping an eye on seasonal offers. Here’s how you can do the same:
Spring Escapes
Spring is one of my favourite times to book! Prices are generally lower than in the summer, and the forests are perfect for walking holidays and cycling holidays.
Money-saving tips:
- Midweek breaks in March or April can be up to 30% cheaper than weekend stays.
- Use the Offers tab to find reduced-price cabins after Easter.
- Last year, we booked a romantic getaway in Thorpe Forest for under £300 by travelling midweek in late April.
Summer and August Holidays
It’s no secret that summer is peak season, but that doesn’t mean you can’t save! The trick is to book as early as possible or grab a last-minute cancellation.
Money-saving tips:
- Book August holidays at least 6-9 months in advance for the best choice and price.
- Keep an eye on last minute breaks - I once found a cabin in Forest of Dean £200 cheaper just a week before departure.
- If you’re flexible, early July is often cheaper than the late-summer rush.
Autumn Adventures
Autumn is a great time for dog-friendly holidays and hot tub breaks as the weather is cooler and of course, lower prices.
Money-saving tips:
- October half-term can still be busy, but you can save by booking midweek breaks rather than weekends.
- Forest Holidays often run Halloween break promotions - I saved £150 on a family cabin at Sherwood Forest in late October.
- Avoid booking over a bank holiday weekend if you want the lowest rates.
Winter & Pre-Christmas Breaks
Winter stays are perfect for cosy hideaway holidays and group getaways. I love booking in December before Christmas - it’s quiet and much cheaper than summer.
Money-saving tips:
- Book pre-Christmas breaks in early November or December for the best rates.
- Keep an eye out for festive offers on the Offers tab – last year, I found a treehouse holiday in Delamere Forest with a hot tub for under £400.
- Bring your own festive treats and decorations to save on extras while still making it feel special.
Bank Holidays & What’s On in 2025
Bank holiday weekends sell out fast, so booking early is key if you want a cabin for dates like Easter or the late May bank holiday! In 2025, watch for Forestipedia blog updates and Forest news to find special themed events or new activities.
Money-saving tips:
- If you can avoid bank holiday dates, you’ll almost always pay less.
- Look for midweek breaks immediately after a bank holiday for better value.
- Sign up for the Forest Holidays newsletter to be first to hear about new openings and exclusive sales.
Pair these timing tips with a Forest Holidays discount code from our page, and you could save enough to treat yourself to extra activities, dining, or even a longer stay.
